I can't agree with that. Yes the company took us in this direction, but it isn't the job of the CEO or leadership team to lead down a path of least resistance. Yes, promote respect, DE has done that. I respect everyone for their contributions. The only people who don't reciprocate that respect are those on the picket lines. They have said, in essence, "screw you, and your life, blah blah blah". Just because we are doing as they are. Acting on our beliefs.

Likewise, the TWU President must accept responsibility for his failure to address the concerns of the people he is failing to lead. The union's role is to follow the company and represent workers. It should never be in the forefront of the company's business. The union leadership is just as much to blame, if not more so then DE. You cannot tell me with their cheap paper masks with Darren's face on it, or the attempts at scathing remarks made by picketers that this union has not participated in "cheap shots".
Therefore, I come to the conclusion that Bruce Bell must accept responsibility for the "low road he has taken". Further concluding, by your own follow up, Bruce Bell "must go". _________________ Have a great day everyone!

ur missing the point or you dont want to ackowledge the point i am trying to make...
the ceo by his job description is to lead the troops....lead them in one direction that is...not and i repeat not... divide the troops...
the ceo has the responsibility to make it happen...this implies maintaining an effective relationship with the union that represents the workforce...
the present ceo has failed on both counts...he has severely divided the troops and miserably failed to establish an effective relationship with the union...
worst of all he has undermined the principles of trust and respect...
isnt time everyone opens their eyes and sees what is for real out there...the ceo has made many very bad decisions about telus...he is bent on winning the battle at all costs....he thinks of employees as pawns...he has little regard for respect and trust...
trinkets and promises wont cut it here...people can only judge other people by their actions...the ceo actions in this dispute have been very unpriofessional...
come on folks lets put this thing to rest..once and for all...if the ceo goes now...there is hope for a new direction of bringing together...the current ceo has not shown any abilty to bring together in 5 years...all he seems to know is intimidate...divide and conquer...certainly not the leader i would like to work for nor work at a placeunder hm where trust and respect dont exist...
imho...here is no hope with the present ceo....he has to go... |

No, the CEO's description is to do what is best for the company and report to the shareholders. The CEO is just a face for the shareholders, albeit, since he is (I believe) the second largest shareholder, he has a tremendous amount of pull. In the end he does have the final say, but he has in no way "divided the troops" as it were. Far from it. He has provided the employees the information they need to make a decision for themselves. By doing so I feel less like a pawn (union pawn that is) and more like a team member.
The union has been the one to alienate and divide their members. They have continued to not inform members, even when questions are asked of them. They have lied, just as much, if not more than Telus. How can a union say that they have the memberships best interests in mind and are representing the majority when (in AB) 56% are proving with their feet that they believe the union is full of cheese. ON and QC are another matter as I don't believe a single person has left to join the TWU in picketing the company. Yet again, a result of the TWU's incompetence when it comes to the act of keeping its members informed. When BC opens shortly, we will see what kind of majority the TWU has.
Until then, I maintain, Bruce Bell has to go. _________________ Have a great day everyone!

here we are at the same impasse....two sides mile apart...
iimho...it is the ceo who sets the leadership style....the present one has chosen open confrontation...that has led to imntimidation and every other cheap trick in the book....he should have walked the high road...he didnt...he should have simply shown he could run the company without the majority of the employees...he didnt...he should have used the security to safe guard his buildings...he didnt...he should have left the union to their own road if he felt they were using the low road....hi didnt...he should have been professional in his approach to this dispute...he didnt....
he has shown zero in building a unified company....he has shown zero in utilizing his employees to reach their potential...he hasnt...
he has shown a great ability to grind telus to dust...a great move eh?
come on let's recognize this dispute for what it is...the ceo has failed...he went for the quick kill and didnt deliver....the 56% working is also highly disputed...anyhow stats can be twisted in anyone's favour...
now the ceo is forcing both sides to form strong attitudes which will become seriously entrenched if he is allowed to continue...definately a loose-loose proposition with the employees being the biggest loosers...
the ceo's credibility has been tarnished beyond recovery....he may destroy the company but how much damage will he inlict on the employees before the company's end?
for the sake of the company ...the ceo has to go...the sooner the better...i hope before someone gets seriously hurt...this aint no joke...the ceo has telus on a collision course with disaster...sadly...it will be employee disaster....
the ceo has to go...for the sake of the employees and the company... |

Mirrormirror you are right the sides are miles apart--and the TWU side is headed downhill and fast--for every point that you say "the ceo didn't" there are triple the amount that will firmly plan themselves on the side that said he did and did it well and good on you.
there are more folks in this than the TWU--folks who believe in his leadership, his style, the fact that the ceo and his leadership team have gone above and beyond to breach the impasse and all the TWU does is pick and choose pieces of facts to support an ever weakening position
one only has to look at the share price to see the kind of support he is getting and remember when the WHOLE telecom market tanked who brought us to where we are today (NOT the TWU) |

however i would like to point out that it was the company ceo that took us in this direction...it is his job and the rest of the leadership to lead the company on a path that will resolve difficulties....it is his job to promote respect and trust n the workplace...its his job to find a way to work with the union...
the blame must lay soley at his feet...he has been responsible for all the cheap shots...he has acted in a most unprofessional way...instead of taking the high road he has chosen to divide the workforce and promote strong negative feelings between the workplace opposing groups that have arisen...
look at the replies to this post if you dont believe what i am saying...there are now very strong opposing feelings here...must we wait till these feelings manifest themselves into actions causing harm to another worker?
the ceo must accept responsibility for the low road he has taken... |
MM.. why do you do this?.. you start out with a beautiful point that needs to be made, you write very well.. but you always bring t around to it ALL being Darrens fault. I can say this is a 2way street, but the company at NO time has promoted hatred of the TWU, bashed them in the press, or as you always like to point out, pitted the employees against one another. The company has been after a decent workable deal since day 1, the union wants to run the company .. the picketers are not being promoted as evil scum by the company , but yet i now see people on the street i used to call friends who have turned into evil trolls easily distinguishable by their words and actions(not all of them.. but many )
The company is not trying to Ram concessions down our throats.. they asked for a vote .. a democratic process.. let the people affected be heard .. it is the union who tore it up faster than it was delivered.
we have over 55% of Alberta BU working .. and if you read the topic on "we have ours now show us yours" you would find that there are way more people working than picketing.. so i mean really, who is it that is trying to pit the sides and people here?. the union wont even listen to a few THOUSAND people that are voting the only way they have been given and when the doors open in BC, I think they are in for a very rude shock |

yes the sides are miles apart...i have been devil's advocate and put forth the best i can the other side...now just take a moment and reflect on the answers i got...always the other sides and always countering my points...and always miles apart...its sick...
there lies the problem....divided camp...it dont take a rocket scientist to see this is what leads to wars....funny thing in wars the common folk tend to take the roughest ride...so with this dispute....the ceo is financially set..it doesnt matter the outcome..other than his pride he is financially set for life...not many of us are that fortunate...it is the employees who will suffer from this dispute....we are the ones who have to work together...
its not about the stupid contract anymore...its more about divide and conquer...intimidation...ridicule...hatred and vengence...its more about a leader who has chosen a very wrong path...a path that is leaving distruction at his feet...a path that is using the employees as pawns...regardless of the actual number that are working in calgary the strong majority are out...period...
while we are at it lets face it it didnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that many people in calgary would cross the picket line...i lived in calgary...the mentality is non union....the ceo had 4 years to make sure he hired people with non union sentiment...on top of this calgary is top heavy with managers....
the ceo has chosen the wrong path...i fail to see how anyone can stand behind him and at the same time acknowledge where the majority of atheir fellow workers are...this is sick...
history has time and time again shown this scenario...each time the leader and his followers lived in denial...denial led them to doom.... remember the iraqi ambassador to the un...to the better end he denied the truth of reality....by the way where is he now?
there is only one easy and no brainer way to end this dispute....yep tis true....the ceo has to go...the ceo has to be replaced with a more moderate ceo that can mend fences and build relationships....repect and trust...
its a funny thing but when respect ant trust are the basis for a company's policies and when the ceo behaves in a manner that illustrates these principles...workers love going to work and enjoy being very productive...i cant see this with the present ceo...he has burned his bridges with too many employess...he is now a detriment to the company...
he has to go...period |

| Goat dancer when you go into negotiation you always keep in mind the extent of the power other person has. To falsely believe that you hold the stick is criminal, specially since when so many lives are effected. |

I was not intimidated or ridiculed to cross, nor do I feel hatred and vengence on the inside. I didn't cross for the trinkets and my manager didn't threaten me to come back. I READ what the twu is doing and I read what the company is doing and took all the information and made my own decision to cross. I believe in TELUS, I do not trust the twu if any intimidation/ridicule/hatred/vengence is coming from the twu. I will not be bullied by the twu any more.

thats because mm does not read both sides and listen to both sides like Joe Public, it is tolally the other way around, don't cross the picket line or we will never speak to you again, oh please I wish, then we will kill you and you're family, darren is evil, darren is the devil. truth Darren is an employee of the board of directors who love the job he is doing.
This was a good rumour for the longest time that Darren slept with his best friends Mark Schnarr's wife. to back up how evil he is. The truth is it was Mark Schnarr's sister, thats ok in my books.
The Twu lies all the time, check out everything they say and it almost always is not true. taken out of context. parts left out on and on or dare I use etc. |

| Marc and Jill Schnarr (his sister) are no longer with telus. They were both given their walking papers. This was shortly after the telus idol scandal cover up. Jill was the lovely that layed at Darren's feet. I'm sure she now realizes just how much she degraded herself. I don't care how much the guy makes, never should a woman degrade herself by actually throwing herself on the floor at his feet. If you haven't seen it, wait until you've digested your last meal. |
